Knit and Crochet

One of the strange little things about me is that I am an avid knitter, with a dose of my mom's left-handed crochet skills.  I have done several projects, buy my yarn by the pound, and I love to create things for different people.  I enjoy being busy working on custom projects, and adding to my creative experience with custom projects.
I do make coffee sleeves as my knit and crochet retail item, but I'm always happy to customize any project.

Coffee is definitely one of my passions and a daily indulgence in my life. In trying to reduce my carbon footprint and have even more fun with my morning cup, I started designing fun coffee sleeves a few years ago. When it came time to create a product line instead of focusing on custom projects, coffee sleeves seemed like a natural transition for a fun set of projects.
These coffee sleeves are currently listed in my Etsy shop.

Projects from 2016: these were made - in part - after I broke my hand.  I essentially had to relearn how to hold and handle my yarn while working on these projects.  It was actually really interesting to add a different level of difficulty to some techniques with which I am so familiar.  The dragons added another layer of interest, as I decided to experiment with adding chainmaille into the bodies and piping to give the wings more stability.  I loved adding additional mediums to these, and continued to use piping when I created the chemistry set.

Set of custom work for the 2015 holiday season. This includes a custom designed throw blanket, TARDIS hat from Doctor Who, infant hat with poof, and an amigurumi elephant.

Infant set (not shown is a pink shark seen farther down the page) with a crochet baby blanket made with my geometric squares pattern and custom floral edge motif, pink horse in matching colors with the blanket, and new owl design.

Winter 2012

For one of my first projects after I moved, I changed gears and started crocheting terrestrial animals instead of purely aquatic ones.  I tried my hand first at a giraffe and a lion, adding in a really cute owl (photos to come soon).
But staying with my usual aquatic animals, I tried something new and changed my shark - once again - to make it a hammerhead.
Fall 2012

I'm always looking to make changes and revisions to some of my designs.  These are some of my crochet animals - old and new - that I have made while reworking and adjusting my techniques.
I'm very happy with the changes I've made with my octopus.  The changes to the mantle, longer arms, and spiracle add so much to making it look anatomically similar to the real thing.
Winter 2011-2012

Here are some of my specialty holiday creations!  They're shaping up to be very nice!
I realized in all the things I've posted, I have not included something integrated in multiple colors.  While there are plenty of things that are many colors, it is not integrated by stitch.  So, with some of my holiday products, I am definitely changing that!
Winter 2011

I have recently completed several of my baby knits, including a couple sweaters - one with matching hat - and a set of infant overalls.  They turned out very cute especially once the buttons were added!
Fall 2011

What I crochet most of all are the little animals that are in the two baby gift sets.  But I've changed the way I do my octopus!  I'll keep doing both styles, as the biggest differences are the arms and the size: this one is definitely bigger.
I have also perfected how I do my turtle!  I didn't really change anything from the original design, but I changed how the pieces connect to each other.
I have also added some color to my sharks, perfected the shape of the caudal fin, and kept with the female anatomy.  So far, so good!  This is probably one of my favorites to do, and I"m considering adding a jawline... but I like to think of sharks as cute, not scary!
Fall 2011

I was commissioned to knit some child mittens and gloves: three sets double-layered, and one set of flip gloves. The flip gloved mittens have a double layer up through the palm and thumb.  I designed them completely from a tracing of each child's hands with some of their measurements written in.

This is the first set that I really chronicled as I went, and I learned a lot on this project.
Fall 2011

I have been diversifying the types of things I knit.  In this section are two of my newest projects: an adult sweater vest - custom fit for myself, and a shawl/wrap with a ruffled trim.
Fall 2011

Born seven weeks early, another friend of mine had an unexpected start to her little one's life.  So the booties from one set joined her with a few other little things for her little girl.

While I typically do knits for babies, I decided to do some extra crochet work.  For those of you who crochet, nothing is mirror image in the pictures, I crochet left-handed, so everything is backward!

Summer 2011

When a friend's wife were pregnant with their first baby, my yarnwork skills went into overdrive!  They got a full set of things for their baby girl including a quilt, photo album, some stuffed juggling animals, booties, and a little purple hat.
Spring 2010

These photos are from a few commissioned projects knitting some winter scarves for the chilly months in Minnesota.  I also have a picture of the first mittens I ever made on here.  I still use a similar format today, with a few tweaks to make it a little more streamlined.  I made another pair just after these with the same dimensions for a friend in pink.
