My most recent piece my kids have affectionately named "Overlook." The view looks over downtown St. Paul from the top of the High Bridge. It's one of my favorite spots in this city.
Painting this took a lot patience since several different coats were needed. I started with gesso and texture paste layers to add dimension to the buildings and to help guide my hand when adding color. From there it progressed through several painstaking layers with a base coat, adding values, layering blacks, using washes, and adding highlights. It's my favorite of my skylines. I wish the dimension from the textural layers came through in print, but that just makes the original more unique.
