My most recent series is a set of small watercolors based in my new home city: St. Paul. In viewing art based in the Twin Cities, I noticed that most pieces are centered in Minneapolis, and I was inspired to create some for the eastern twin. The architecture downtown is older than most of Minneapolis, and its stony facades are stunning against the backdrop of the river.
All of these pieces were done in watercolors and ink. I wanted to try working more solely with watercolors, and this size seemed to work well for the medium, although canvas is not typically used just with watercolor. The fabric holds the paint differently than a paper, and I was glad to start with a base that I really understand how to work with. The inks were used to really highlight the contours of the pieces and provide more definition in each piece. The canvases are all smaller than any others I've done: 7" x 9".
