For the inside, we picked a very soft cotton in a dark grey - if they get flipped inside out, it'll be harder to tell the dirty spots. It's also a beautiful color.
For the outsides, we have a couple different things:
All the yarn is acrylic on the outside to reduce absorbency of the mittens while not having a shrinking medium as with wool.
For Drew, the 2 year old boy, we went with bright blue and bright red. Since his eyesight isn't great, we wanted something that would be really easy to find. But we also wanted two pairs that were distinctly different.
For Clara, the 4 year old girl, we went with a coral pink/orange for her gloves. She's getting a sophisticated pair of gloves, so I wanted a pretty and sophisticated color to go with them. For her mittens, we went with sparkly purple! I'm really excited about that yarn, since purple is one of my favorite colors. I held the three colors for her mittens and gloves together and said, "Hey, Mom, it's my wedding!" So hers offer a bit of nostalgia for me too.
I can't wait to see how these turn out, I'm sure the kids will like them, I just hope they don't growth spurt right through them! But, I'm still excited with the media choices that they should have enough stretch to last.
My SECOND project (that's right, there's more!) is a shawl/wrap. I found an image online, and decided it was something I should try. I've already modified the pattern to fit my style a little better, and I'm already one skein underway.
Once each project is done, I"m sure I'll have some pictures to post as well!
